INTRO TO DARKROOM - 4 WEEK - TUESDAYS, FEBRUARY 4th-25th - 6-8pm - HELD AT EBPCO DARKROOM BY JYOTI LIGGIN
This 4 week course is for those who are comfortable shooting 35mm film but have no previous experience in a black & white darkroom. Throughout the course, an instructor will guide you through the basics of darkroom processes, including processing black & white film, contact printing, and enlargement printing. Participants must bring two exposed but unprocessed rolls of film to work with for the first class. All other materials for this course are provided by EBPCO! Includes limited independent access to the EBPCO Darkroom for the month of the course.

ADVANCED DARKROOM PRINTING - TWO DAY - MONDAY, FEB 3rd & WEDNESDAY, FEB 5th - 6-9:30pm - HELD AT EBPCO DARKROOM BY VINCE DONOVAN
This two day advanced workshop is reserved for registered users of the EBPCO darkroom who want to take their printing to the next level. You'll learn techniques to work more efficiently and effectively in the darkroom to get consistently good prints with vivid blacks, rich mid-tones, and sparkling highlights! Participants must bring an unopened 25 pack of Ilford RC 8x10 Pearl paper as well as a selection of 35mm negatives and darkroom prints made at the EBPCO darkroom to the first class. All other materials for this course are provided by EBPCO!

SALT PRINTING - SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 9th - 12-3 - HELD AT EBPCO DARKROOM BY ANNE STURGEON
Salt printing is a photographic printing process dating back to the mid 1800’s that uses table salt and silver nitrate to produce a light sensitive emulsion. In this one-day workshop, learn the basics of this historical process, including how to make and coat your light sensitive emulsion on paper and expose with UV light, leaving you with a rich brown salt print made from a digital negative. Participants must send in images prior to the workshop for negative printing. All other materials for this workshop are provided by EBPCO.

DR. PHILM CAMERA REPAIR - SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 22nd - 11AM-1PM - HELD AT OAKLAND PHOTO WORKSHOP BY PHILP KRAYNA
Do you have a film camera sitting in your closet or collecting dust in an attic, inherited from a relative or borrowed from a friend, or recently purchased at a yard sale or on eBay? Bring your cameras and question to this informal workshop where we will share with others and with EPBCO member and film camera obsessive Philip Krayna (aka “Dr. Philm). Philip will test and assess your camera, if possible help with minor repairs, and explain how to use it, so you can start enjoying the magic of film photography.
This is a FREE Workshop, but advance registration is required.
MATTING & FRAMING - SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 23rd - 3-6PM - HELD AT OAKLAND PHOTO WORKSHOP BY JENNY SAMPSON AND JAN WATTEN
Learn the importance and the basics of framing and presenting your photographic work. This workshop will cover frame styles, colors and sizes; mat colors and borders; mat vs. no mat; glazing options (glass vs. plexi); finishing (hardware/wires, etc.) and how to present your work at portfolio reviews. Cutting windows in mat board will be demonstrated and attendees will have the opportunity to try cutting their own mat windows. Glass cutting can be demonstrated if there is interest and time.

INTRO TO 35MM FILM PHOTOGRAPHY - SATURDAY, MARCH 1st - 1-4pm - HELD AT EBPCO DARKROOM BY NAJEE TOBIN
For those who own a 35mm SLR camera and want to learn how to get the most out of it. In this course, an instructor will guide you through the basics of manual camera function and making images with black & white 35mm film, including ISO, aperture, shutter speed, light metering, focus, and more. This workshop will get you making images that can be sent out for processing or prepare you for your own processing work in the darkroom. Participants must bring their own 35mm camera.

For those who own a digital camera and want to learn how to get the most out of it. In this workshop, an instructor will guide you through the basics of digital camera function and making images in manual. This workshop will give you a deeper understanding of your camera's modes and functions as well as a greater sense of control over your image making. Participants must bring their own DSLR or mirrorless camera, batteries, and memory card for file storage.

CHEMIGRAM PRINTING - MARCH 22nd - 12-4pm - HELD AT EBPCO DARKROOM BY BRENNA HANSEN
Chemigrams are images made by painting chemicals onto light sensitive photo paper. The results are unique, surprising, and seemingly endless depending on the materials used. In this one day workshop, we’ll experiment with a variety of materials including standard black & white photo chemistry, cyanotype solution, oils, waxes, jellies, vinegars, and more to create one of a kind chemigrams and chemilumens. All materials are provided by EBPCO, but participants may choose to bring some of their own photo paper and/or household pantry items to print with if they wish.

DARKROOM PRINT FINISHING - MARCH 30th - 1-4pm - HELD AT EBPCO DARKROOM BY JYOTI LIGGIN
Get that pile of black & white darkroom prints out of the box in your closet! In this one day workshop, an instructor will guide you through a variety of darkroom print finishing techniques. Topics covered include hand-retouching (aka spotting), pressing, and dry-mounting prints. Bring your own darkroom prints to work with for this workshop or use some of ours. NEW! Join us at Oakland Photo Workshop to discuss your photo projects and works in progress. The goals of these in-person sessions are to create a supportive space to give and receive constructive feedback on projects in all areas of photography currently being developed. Participants will also practice speaking about their art as well as the art of others. We also encourage participants in our workshops to attend and share what you made and are working on! This critique group is open to EBPCO members only. If you’re not a member yet, signing up is easy and you can do so HERE.

This one-day session is designed for those who have had some previous experience in black & white photography, processing, and printing but have been away from it for some time. We will go through the process of black & white film processing and darkroom printing together as a refresher to these hands-on procedures. Discover the time-honored technique of developing film negatives with the power of plants! In this one day workshop, participants will be immersed in the magic of alternative photography where art, science, and nature converge by working with developer brews made from California native and non-native plants. INTRO TO LIGHTING - SUNDAY, APRIL 13TH - 3-6PM - HELD AT OAKLAND PHOTO WORKSHOP BY MIKE MOYA
This one-day workshop is for those who are comfortable operating their cameras but new to the world of studio lighting! Participants will be introduced to the fundamentals by creating a variety of lit scenes and set ups. This workshop will focus on the still life, using opaque objects and a variety of continuous lighting tools so that participants can understand and apply basic lighting principles for professional results in their own images. Participants must bring their own SLR or DSLR cameras and any chargers, SD cards, or film required to operate them. All other materials for this workshop are provided by EBPCO.

CYANOTYPE PRINTING - SATURDAY, APRIL 19TH - 12-4:00PM - HELD AT EBPCO DARKROOM BY BRENNA HANSEN
Cyanotype is a photographic printing process that uses the sun to produce a cyan blueprint. The process is simple but incredibly diverse, lending itself easily to experimentation. In this one-day workshop, learn both the fundamentals of the process and experimental techniques, producing photograms using natural objects, photographs using digital negatives, and toned & manipulated prints. No previous experience is required, and all materials for this workshop are provided! Participants will be asked to email the images they wish to print in class ahead of time.

WET PLATE COLLODION - SUNDAY, MAY 3rd - 10am-4pm - HELD AT EBPCO DARKROOM BY JENNY SAMPSON
Wet Plate Collodion is a photographic process dating back to the 1800’s that involves hand-coating a metal or glass plate with a viscous, salted collodion then submerging it in silver nitrate. While still wet, the sensitized plate is put in the camera, exposed, and processed immediately following exposure. In this one-day workshop, participants will learn the basics of this historical process, using metal plates to create their own one-of-a-kind tintypes. Participants should be familiar with the basics of large format camera operation before registering. All materials for this workshop are provided by EBPCO.

Delve deeper into the world of sustainable silver gelatin developing with plants by making darkroom prints using plant-based developers. In this one day workshop, participants who have taken a previous plant based film developer workshop will have the opportunity to make prints from their negatives, learn to mix chemistry, and observe how their negatives respond to different developers. VIDEO FOR DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHERS - SUNDAY, MAY 18th - 3-6:30PM - HELD AT OAKLAND PHOTO WORKSHOP BY KEITH BATTLE
Finding the transition from still photography to video downright daunting? This hands-on workshop will demystify some of the settings, tools and techniques that are fundamental to capturing video. You'll have to unlearn some things and abandon some tried and true photography tricks but you'll have fun and start shooting better footage right away! Participants must bring their video-enabled digital camera and 1 or 2 of their favorite lenses. Participants are strongly encouraged to familiarize themselves with putting their camera into full manual video mode prior to the workshop.

PINHOLE PHOTOGRAPHY - JUNE 28th - 10am - 2pm - HELD AT EBPCO DARKROOM BY CHRISSY HUHN
This workshop will introduce students to pinhole photography! Participants will learn how to construct their own pinhole cameras utilizing recycled everyday materials and use direct positive silver gelatin paper to create black and white prints directly from the cameras they built. There will also be a brief introduction and overview to traditional darkroom printing - all experience levels are welcome. Bring your own box, coffee canister, or oatmeal container to construct your camera. All other materials for this workshop are provided by EBPCO.

Workshop Cancellation Policy
EBPCO reserves the right to cancel any workshop due to low enrollment. If a workshop is canceled by EBPCO, participants will be notified and receive a complete refund of all workshop fees.
Participants may cancel their own registration up to 7 days prior to the workshop date for a PARTIAL refund WITH A $10 CANCELLATION FEE WITHHELD.
Participants who cancel with fewer than 7 day’s notice WILL NOT RECEIVE A REFUND OF ANY KIND.
