Gordon Osmundson

I started in photography as a teenager shooting Kodachromes of trains. From there I branched out shooting landscapes. In 1973 I discovered Ansel Adams and large format photography and worked in that for almost 40 years shooting trains, landscapes and other industrial subjects. In 1983 I attended the last of the Ansel Adams workshops and since have been published in Trains, Lenswork and View Camera magazines. For landscape and industrial subjects I’ve used a monorail view camera while for action railroad scenes, a Speed Graphic. Subject matter has included steam locomotive details, vintage cars, grain elevators, ghost towns, machine shops and the Lofoten Islands of Norway.

More recently I have been shooting digitally, but I do it with a large format eye. For many subjects I do perspective correction in Photoshop to produce that view camera perspective. In addition to the above, I’ve been shooting architecture in Chicago and the Outer Sunset in San Francisco. In 2011, beginning through Meetup Groups, I began shooting nudes and this has become a major part of my work since, exploring both the female form and the personalities of my models.
